Case
The patient is a 4-year-old girl who presents with worsening swelling and pain in the left lower leg. There is no history of trauma, but there are focal areas of swelling. No bruising or evidence of an insect bite is noted, but the areas are red and warm. A few inguinal lymph nodes are palpable on the ipsilateral side. Neurologic and vascular examinations of the extremity are unremarkable. Two weeks ago at another facility, the patient was treated with antibiotics for cellulitis, but her mother states that she did not finish the medicine. Initial radiographs of the tibia and fibula were negative at that facility.
Ultrasonography of the lower leg shows a small focal mass, reported as possibly representing a hematoma or abscess. The inguinal adenopathy is also confirmed. Radiographs are obtained (see Figure 1). What does Figure 1 show?
