CASE
A 58-year-old male presented with an asymptomatic lesion on his right upper gum (Figure 1). The patient noticed the slowly growing mass in the area but attributed it to an irritation from his denture. He was unsure of how long the lesion had been present and had not tried any alleviating measures. When it did not resolve, he decided to have it evaluated. The patient was otherwise healthy with no history of alcohol or tobacco use.
On examination, a 1-cm erythematous, smooth, nonulcerated nodule was noted on the right upper maxillary gingiva. Manipulation of the lesion did not cause pain or bleeding. The patient was edentulous with no other lesions in his mouth.
