CASE

A 17-year-old African American male with type V skin on the Fitzpatrick scale presented with a rash on his neck that began as a few small bumps and then increased in size and number. The rash, which had persisted for several months, was not pruritic. The patient had not tried any OTC medications. He was otherwise a healthy high school student who played basketball and football.

On examination, multiple pink and slightly translucent 2- to 4-mm papules were present on the posterior neck. They were scattered on the left side of the neck and clustered together on the right (Figure 1). Some acne and postinflammatory hyperpigmentation was visible on the forehead. A shave biopsy of the lesion was performed.
